About
Open Government Data (OGD) refers to data produced or collected by public institutions and made freely accessible. Making these datasets available promotes transparency, fosters innovation, and strengthens citizen engagement. By unlocking the value of this data, public administrations, businesses, and citizens can develop more effective services and create new economic and social opportunities.
This two-day short course is designed to equip participants from the public sector (municipalities, cantons, federal institutions) with the knowledge and skills needed for public data management and Open Government Data (OGD).
The course focuses on:
- The motivation behind and strategic role of data for the public sector in Switzerland
- Best practices in data management and open data publication
- Use cases and initiatives in Switzerland, with a focus on practical applications and real-world examples
This short course is fully funded for staff of public administrations (municipalities, cantons, federal institutions) and can also be attended online if needed.

Program
This short program open data management was built for professionals seeking to learn about fundamental concepts and then practice them trough practical exercises. There is a strong emphasis on practical application supported by academic excellence, with the use of exercises and break-out groups, industry examples and guest speakers. The fundamental notions will be presented beforehand, then supplemented and illustrated by numerous practical exercises based on real cases .
